The Resort
Eight miles outside of Brasov sits the small alpine town of Poiana Brasov. Located within the dramatic Postavaru Massif and sitting at 1,200 m above sea level, Poiana Brasov is Romania's premier ski resort. The natural setting is beautiful and the coniferous forests that surround the resort make Poiana Brasov a great place to come and enjoy the countryside as well as the skiing. The ski season in Poiana Brasov runs from mid-November until mid-March and the snow cover is about 50-60 cm throughout this period. It gets chilly up in the mountains and the average winter temperature is -4 degrees. The skiing is suitable for mixed abilities and there is a range of runs between beginners up to advanced, so all standards of skier should find something here that suits them. It is important to note that any advanced skiers wishing to challenge themselves may exhaust the runs here within a couple of days. In total there are over 13,000 m of runs in Poiana Brasov and English and German ski instructors to help beginners traverse them. Those wishing to try other activities will be pleased to know that there are other options. There is an artificial skating rink, sports field, bowling alley, swimming pool and riding centre. There is also a horse drawn sleigh for those wishing to be a little less active.

Your lift pass will be left at the reception in your hotel to avoid any unnecessary hassle and you will be fitted with your ski equipment only a few yards from the nearest lift. At the end of each day you can simply drop all your equipment back where you picked up, it couldn't be easier!
Après-ski & Nightlife
The après-ski in Poiana Brasov is great and the town is fun, lively and great value for money. ‘Pub Rossignol’ is a favourite with both locals and tourists who congregate there after a day on the slopes. There is even sometimes dancing there later in the evenings. The restaurants in the hotels in the resort are generally all very good but we particularly recommend 'Stana Turistica' restaurant for traditional Romanian fare.
The nightlife on offer is slightly more varied in Brasov than in Poiana Brasov with many cosy bars and great cafes on the square and the main high street. There is of course, the obligatory Irish pub that you'll find in every city around the world. 'Deans Irish Pub' is perfectly Irish and as you'd expect it to be, so if it’s a Guinness you're after then head here, also your best bet if you’re looking to catch a sports match. Bars are open late and the locals will be more than happy to point you in the direction the clubs should you fancy a dance or “just one more”!
The restaurants really are fantastic in Brasov and are not only delicious but great value as well. We highly recommend the 'Bella Musica' restaurant for a romantic meal, set in the catacombs of the Black Church. We also recommend 'Keller Steak House' and 'Siril Vamii' for traditional and delicious Romanian fare.
