Tucked away in the small town of Avrig, just 20 kilometeres east of Sibiu at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, the baroque Brukenthal Palace is an enchanting oasis of peace and quiet. Dubbed the ‘Eden of Transylvania’ the estate was built during the 18th century by governor Samuel von Brukenthal who made it his personal summer residence.

Despite having been left vacant for several years, plans are well under way to restore the palace to its former glory and steps have already been taken to breathe life back into the buildings and its extensive parkland.

Spend some time admiring the delightful surroundings including a stroll around the prim French baroque garden, the flower-rich Dutch garden and the English garden complete with charming winding paths and shady tress. The bistro is also the perfect place to sample some of their home produce including fresh elderflower cordials, fruity jams and a large variety of homegrown vegetables.
